'The Man with the muscles of twenty men, and the brains of twenty mussels!' Bananaman is now over 30 years old and we are producing a small series of figurines of the characters from the much loved comic strip and TV series. Each one will be a Time Limited Edition to be released over a two month ordering period. We are starting with Bananaman himself which is available from now until 27th May, followed by his alter ego Eric Wimp, to be released from 28th May until 27th July, 2012. After that we have General Blight and Captain Cream, which are still in the design studio, so expect news of their release dates shortly. Bananaman bannerEric Wimp Bananaman Bananaman originally appeared in D.C. Thomson's Nutty Comic as the back page strip in the first issue, dated 16th February 1980. Bananaman's popularity would outlive the lifespan of the Nutty and he would therefore go on to appear in both The Dandy and The Beano and feature in his own television show on the BBC. The original strip was written by Steve Bright and mostly drawn by John Geering until his death in 1999. Barrie Appleby took over drawing Bananaman and later he was drawn by Tom Paterson. Periodically from 2007 to 2010 he appeared in reprinted strips from the John Geering era and for a short time in late 2008 artist Chris McGhie, whose other work included The Three Bears for the Beano, reinvented Bananaman in a series of new strips. Since the Dandy revamp occurring in October 2010; Wayne Thompson took over drawing Bananaman, a popular artist in The Dandy who has previously drawn Jak, Agent Dog 2-Zero and, occasionally, Bully Beef and Chips, and as of spring 2011, Thompson's version of Bananaman appeared in full colour over two pages. In 1983, the BBC made a cartoon series, produced by 101 Film Productions, which included a catchy theme tune and featured the voices of The Goodies. It lasted for forty episodes between 3 October 1983 and 15 April 1986. * A limited edition hand painted ceramic resin figurine from the Beano & Dandy Collection. * Designed and sculpted in Shropshire, England by Robert Harrop Designs. * Approximately 8.75 inches (224mm) tall. * A Time Limited Edition from orders placed before 27th May, 2012. * Supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Robert Harrop. * Individually hand numbered on the base. * Comes complete in a presentation box. *Please note that all figurines are made to order and most production will start when the final total is known after the 27th May, so please expect several weeks after this date for delivery.
