Originating from - and named after - the North Atlantic Island in Canada, Newfoundland dogs were originally bred as a working dog for the local fishermen. Due to their great strength, webbed feet and excellent swimming abilities, the Newfoundland excels at water rescue and is still used in this role today. As a 'webbed' foot note, the most famous of all Newfoundland dogs is 'Seaman', a member of the first American overland expedition from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast and back. He was purchased for $20 by Captain Meriwether Lewis for his famed Lewis and Clark expedition. Please note that this piece is not limited, but we must stress that because we are completing this figure in batches, it means that we will have limited stock availability at any one time, so it may take up to 28 days to fulfil your order and get him to your door!
