Upon investigation the Doctor soon discovers that this is part of a plot hatched by his old adversary the Master. DATA… Alpha Centauri from ‘The Curse of Peladon’ (1972) “Your legend seems violent and unpleasant, and rather too convenient!” The Doctor and Jo make a test flight in the TARDIS and arrive on the planet Peladon, materialising on the edge of a cliff below a castle and they barely leave the ship before it tumbles over the edge. Seeking help, they enter the citadel of the soon-to-be-crowned King Peladon, where the Doctor is mistaken for a human dignitary summoned to act as Chairman of a committee assessing an application by the planet to join the Galactic Federation. The other committee members made up of Alpha Centauri, Arcturus, the Martian Lord Izlyr and his Warrior subordinate Ssorg have already arrived, but are disconcerted by the death of one of the King's advisors, Chancellor Torbis. High Priest Hepesh, who opposes the union with the Federation, attributes Torbis's death to the Curse of Aggedor, the sacred beast of Peladon. Other incidents occur and the Doctor concludes that a saboteur is at work. The Alpha Centauran delegate is a hermaphroditic hexapod from the planet Alpha Centauri and opposes any degree of violence or conflict. It does however have a low opinion of other worlds, describing Earth as "remote and unattractive" and Peladon as a "barbarous planet". You have invaded our part of the galaxy many times!” The Doctor and Jo Grant arrive on board an Earth spaceship in the year 2540. The ship comes under attack and the crew perceive the Doctor, Jo and the attackers as Draconians, whose empire currently rivals Earth's for control of the galaxy. DATA… Special Weapons Dalek From ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ 1988 “Does it worry you, Doctor, that with it I will transform Skaro's sun into a source of unimaginable power? And with that power at my disposal, the Daleks shall sweep away Gallifrey and its impotent quorum of Time Lords!” The TARDIS arrives in London in November 1963, where the Seventh Doctor and his companion Ace discover that two rival factions of Daleks are seeking the Hand of Omega, a powerful Time Lord device that the First Doctor hid during an earlier visit to Earth. One Dalek faction is loyal to the Dalek Emperor and the other to the Dalek Supreme. They are both focusing their search around Coal Hill School - the school that the Doctor's grand-daughter Susan attended - while a military unit led by Group Captain Gilmore is attempting to resist their incursions. DATA… Mandrel From ‘Nightmare of Eden’ 1979 “The mandrels have a perfect right to exist. In one way Tryst was right. Humans do have some kind of choice. Let's just hope that no one else discovers the secret.” The TARDIS arrives on the space liner Empress which has become locked together with a private ship, the Hecate, after colliding with it on emerging from hyperspace. The Doctor and Romana meet the scientist Tryst, who has with him a Continuous Event Transmuter (CET) machine containing crystals on which are stored supposed recordings of planets that he and his team have visited. Someone on board the liner is smuggling the dangerously addictive drug vraxoin, and to complicate matters the interface between the two ships allows some monstrous Mandrels from the mud swamps of Eden to escape from the CET machine - which does not merely take recordings but actually displaces whole planetary areas into its crystals. The smugglers are revealed to be Tryst and the Hecate's pilot, Dymond. Vraxoin is in fact the material into which the Mandrels decompose when they are killed. The Doctor thwarts this plan, separates the two ships and returns the Mandrels to Eden. A Limited Edition Hand painted figurine / statue from the Doctor Who Collection. DATA… The Second Doctor 1966 - 1969 "Renewed? Have I? That's it, I've been renewed. It's part of the TARDIS. Without it I couldn't survive." The Second Doctor made his first appearance in ‘The Tenth Planet’, a 1966 story, where the First Doctor, seemingly weakened by his battle with the Cybermen, eventually collapses and ‘regenerates’. The ‘new’ Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton, had his full debut in the next story ‘The Power of the Daleks’ where his companions Ben and Polly are at first unsure how to treat him. In this story, the TARDIS brings the Doctor, Polly and Ben to the Earth colony on planet Vulcan, where the Doctor witnesses the murder of an examiner who had been secretly summoned by the Deputy Governor to investigate the activities of a group of rebels. Meanwhile, a scientist has discovered a crashed space capsule containing inert Daleks, which he is now in the process of reactivating. The Doctor's warnings are ignored when the Daleks claim to be the colonists' servants. It is the Daleks‘ behaviour towards the Doctor which at last confirms to Ben and Polly that he really is the Doctor. The Second Doctor would appear in 119 episodes, spanning over 3 series, until his regeneration into the Third Doctor in 'The War Games’ on 21st June, 1969. The Doctor's companions over this time included Polly, Ben Jackson, Jamie McCrimmon, Victoria Waterfield and Zoe Heriot. The TARDIS is infiltrated by the Swarm - a space-borne intelligence that wishes to spread itself across the universe - and the Doctor is infected by its nucleus. The ship then materialises on Titan, one of the moons of Saturn, where the human occupants of a refuelling station have also been taken over. The Doctor eventually collapses as a result of his infection, but first manages to relay to Leela the coordinates of a local hospital asteroid. DATA… Solonian Mutant From ‘The Mutants’ 1972 “Already the pollution is causing mutations. The Mutts, as the Marshal calls them. Mutts!” The Doctor and Jo are sent on a mission by the Time Lords to deliver a sealed message to an unknown party aboard a Skybase orbiting the planet Solos. Solos is due to gain independence from Earth's Empire, but its Marshal is determined to prevent this. He arranges the murder of the Earth Administrator and, with his Chief Scientist Jaeger, plans to transform Solos's atmosphere into one more suited to humans. Ky, a young Solonian leader, is falsely accused of the murder, and flees to the planet. The Doctor follows and joins him in an old thaesium mine. Ky turns out to be the intended recipient of the message, which opens automatically for him. Inside are stone tablets carved with ancient inscriptions? In the mine they meet Sondergaard, a human scientist searching for a cure for the mutating disease that afflicts the Solonians. The Doctor and Sondergaard decipher the inscriptions, deducing that the mutations are part of a natural life-cycle in which the thaesium radiation plays a vital role. The Doctor retrieves a crystal from where the radiation is most concentrated and returns to the Skybase to analyse it. He is recaptured by the Marshal and forced to perfect the machine with which Jaeger plans to transform Solos. DATA… Morbius Creature From ‘The Brain of Morbius’ 1976 “Your puny mind is powerless against the strength of Morbius.” The planet Karn is home both to a mystic Sisterhood, whose sacred flame produces an elixir of life, and to Mehendri Solon, a fanatical scientist who is using the remnants of spaceship crash victims to put together a new body for the still-living brain of the executed Time Lord criminal Morbius. When the Doctor and Sarah arrive on the planet, Solon decides that the Doctor's head is just what he needs to complete his work. The Sisterhood meanwhile fear that the Doctor has been sent by the Time Lords to steal the last drops of elixir produced by the dying flame. They kidnap him and plan to burn him at the stake but he is rescued by Sarah, who is temporarily blinded in the process. The Doctor is tricked by Solon into believing that his companion's condition is permanent. He asks the Sisterhood for help and restores their sacred flame to its former glory using a firework to clear its blocked chimney. Returning to Solon's citadel, the Doctor and Sarah become trapped in the cellar. The Doctor releases cyanide fumes into the ventilation system and Solon is killed, but not before he has used an artificial brain case to complete Morbius's new body. The now-mobile Morbius accepts the Doctor's challenge to a mind-bending contest, which takes a heavy toll on both of them. The Sisters force the crazed Morbius over a cliff and he falls to his death. They then use the elixir to heal the Doctor. A Limited Edition Hand painted figurine / statue from the Doctor Who Collection.
